(Opening Ceremony)
The pleasant morning of 17th January 2024 witnessed the opening ceremony of 11th Mar Theodosius Memorial Inter School Football Tournament at this sprawling football field of the MGM Senior Secondary School sector 6 Bhilai campus.
The ardous tournament will witness 8 teams competing neck to neck for the trophy. The honourable Chief Guest for the occasion was Mrs. Nisha Soni, Chief General Manager of Bhilai Steel Plant. The other distinguished guests who graced the ceremony were Rev.Fr. Shaji M. Baby – Vice President of the School, Mr. P.G. Chacko – Treasurer of Church, the School and Church Managing Committee Members.
The program commenced with the lighting of lamp to the accompaniment of an invocation and the garlanding of the portrait of the former Manager Bishop Late Lamented Dr. Stephenos Mar Theodosius.
The Principal Incharge, Mr Shaji chacko in his address introduced the honorable chief guest. He said that this tournament is commendable endeavour by MGM. He insisted on NEP which says that sports and academics are equally important. He wished the coaches, managers and players of various teams and said that football encourages you to be in a teamwork.
The Chief Guest in her address said that it was an honor and privilege to be present on this spectacular occasion. She said that sports tournaments are reminder that School life is not only for academics; sports and games are equally important. She insisted children to play outdoor games as computer games never develop the qualities like perseverance leadership and discipline.
The unfurling of the school flag gave the tournament a roaring start. The opening ceremony of the tournament moved towards its end with the National Anthem and the vote of thanks proposed by Mr D Vijay.
The first match for the day was played between Jyoti Vidyalaya, Charoda and St. Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Shanti Nagar in which Jyoti Vidyalaya won by 2-1 goals.
The second match was played between Maitri Vidya Niketan, Risali and Purai Higher Secondary School in which the Maitri Vidya Niketan scored the winning goal by 10-0 goals.
