MGM Senior Secondary School, Sec VI celebrated its 57th Annual Sports Day on the beautiful morning of 22nd December ,2023 at the spacious Mar Theodosius Sports Complex.
The Hon’ble Chief Guests for the Opening and the Closing Ceremony were Dr. G.M. Hassan, Director Dept. of Physical Education, Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur and Shri. William Lakra, Assistant Director Dept. of Sports & Youth Welfare, Govt. of Chhattisgarh respectively.
The other distinguished guests who graced the Meet were Rev. Fr. Shaji M Baby, Vice President
MGM Sr. Sec. School; Hon’ble Correspondent of the school Shri K.C. Mathew, the Church and School Managing Committee. The event was also graced by the illustrious presence of the former Principal of the School Mrs. Retnamma, former teachers, class of 1999 alumni and several other invitees including Incharges of all shifts, parents, staff and students.
The program got a ceremonial start with the lighting of the lamp to the accompaniment of an invocation. Mr. Benjamin M.C, the H.O.D of Physical Education in his Welcome Address introduced the Hon’ble guests to the gathering and spoke about the essence of Sports that inculcates discipline, self-esteem, confidence and team work.
Mr. Shaji Chacko, Principal Incharge of the school was delighted to address the august gathering. He extolled the virtues of a resolute sportsman and added that Games and Sports are an integral part of education.
The Sports Meet was formally declared ‘Open’ with the unfurling of the School Flag by the guests and dignitaries followed by the release of balloons. The Guests inspected the contingents and a splendid March Past was performed by students of class VIII. The Sports Secretary, Rajeev Verma administered the Oath to the House Captains who pledged to take part in the Meet with the spirit of true sportsmanship.
After the formal oath taking ceremony, the Sports Day got off to a roaring start.
The guests were presented with a colorful show ‘Chakde India’ by Pre- Primary students; an energetic and enthusiastic field display on Aerobics by students of classes I to III and a graceful Semi Classical dance to melodious music by students of classes VIII and IX.
Next, the audience got a taste of enormous spirit of determination when the students from the Pre-Primary Wing actively participated in Relay Race, Frog Race and Find and Go Home Race.
The track events for the day were – 60m Sprint: Girls and Shuttle Run: Boys for Classes III & IV; Mix Race: Boys & Girls for Classes V & VI; 200m Sprint: Boys & Girls for Classes VII & VIII; 400m Sprint and 4x100m Relay: Boys & Girls for Classes IX & X; 100m Sprint and 4x100m Relay: Boys & Girls for Classes XI & XII.
The Chief Guest Dr. Hassan in his address expressed his pleasure at being present on the momentous occasion of the 57th Sports Day of the school and congratulated the Management, Staff and Students for the systematic organization of the gala event.
Expressing his happiness at being present on the occasion, the Chief Guest Shri William Lakra in his message extended his greetings to all present and motivated the students adding that Sports makes one’s body and mind healthy. He concluded by wishing the school fraternity a glorious future ahead.
The distinguished guests were cordially felicitated.
The highlight of the occasion was the prize distribution ceremony.
Patel House bagged the Overall Championship Trophy. While Gandhi House was declared the 1st Runner Up, Nehru House won the 2nd Runner Up.
The following students were adjudged with Individual Championship Prizes: –
For Category IX and X – R. Rishik Kumar of Class X H (Patel House) and Soumya Chetty of Class X D (Patel House).
For Category XI and XII – Rajeev Verma of Class XII CIP2 (Gandhi House) and M. Poorvika of Class XI CS1 (Patel House).
The program moved towards its finale with the lowering of Flag by the Vice President of the School, Rev. Fr. Shaji M. Baby and other dignitaries thus declaring the Sports Meet closed. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. P. Swati Balaji and the National Anthem brought this remarkable day to an end.
